Milagros—meaning “miracles” in Spanish—are tiny charms traditionally used in Mexican and Latin American culture to express hope, gratitude, and devotion. Whether shaped like hearts, eyes, limbs, or animals, each milagro represents a personal prayer or wish—asking for healing, protection, or giving thanks for blessings received. These sacred symbols are often pinned to altars, carried in pockets, or gifted to loved ones in times of need or celebration. Rooted in tradition, milagros are a powerful reminder of faith, resilience, and the beauty of believing.

The heart milagro (milagrito de corazón) traditionally symbolizes:

  • Love – romantic, familial, or divine love
  • Healing of the heart – both emotional and physical healing
  • Gratitude – for love received or prayers answered
  • Protection – for the heart or relationships
  • Devotion – especially religious devotion or heartfelt prayer

FAQ

What are Mexican Wedding Cookies?

Mexican Wedding Cookies — also known as polvorones, pan de polvo, Russian tea cakes, or snowball cookies — are delicate, melt-in-your-mouth cookies dusted in powdered sugar. Romero Cookies are made from a 40-year family recipe, perfect for weddings, holidays, and everyday celebrations.

Are Romero Cookies the same as biscochitos or bizcochitos?

While they look similar, Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies are not biscochitos. They don’t contain anise and are not made with lard. We often hear regional debates about cookie names — try ours and you might prefer them!

What makes Romero Cookies authentic?

Our recipe has been in the Romero family for over 40 years. Every cookie is handmade in our Denver kitchen with simple, high-quality ingredients that melt in your mouth.

How long do Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies stay fresh?

Our cookies stay fresh for up to 90 days in tins or favor containers and about 30 days if placed in a cookie tray. While freezing won’t harm them, we recommend enjoying them fresh for the best flavor and texture.

Are Mexican Wedding Cookies just for weddings?

Not at all! While they began as a wedding tradition, Mexican Wedding Cookies are now enjoyed at birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and everyday gatherings. They also make thoughtful gifts for teachers, coworkers, and family.
