Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe is more than a symbol—she is a source of faith, comfort, and unity for generations of Mexican and Mexican-American families. She represents protection, love, and the strength of our heritage.

This hand painted card carries that meaning forward, making it a meaningful token to your gift of cookies. Whether you’re honoring a loved one, celebrating a special occasion, or simply sending a message of care, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe connects us back to our roots and reminds us of the deep cultural and spiritual ties we share.

Personally, Our Lady reminds me of my maternal grandmother - Grandma Pita - or the generations of strong women before me, and the generations that will grow from my own faith.

About the artist:

As a multidisciplinary artist, Mateo Ramirez weaves together multiple disciplines to explore the intersection of identity, culture, and the natural world. Their work is a testament to their reconnection with their Hispanic/indigenous heritage and a deepening relationship to the environment.

About our note cards:

Every card is art and copy directed by Liddy, our owner.  They are an expression of her life in the Rio Grand Valley, as well as her interpretation of the beauty, color, and life that is her Hispanic culture.

FAQ

What are Mexican Wedding Cookies?

Mexican Wedding Cookies — also known as polvorones, pan de polvo, Russian tea cakes, or snowball cookies — are delicate, melt-in-your-mouth cookies dusted in powdered sugar. Romero Cookies are made from a 40-year family recipe, perfect for weddings, holidays, and everyday celebrations.

Are Romero Cookies the same as biscochitos or bizcochitos?

While they look similar, Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies are not biscochitos. They don’t contain anise and are not made with lard. We often hear regional debates about cookie names — try ours and you might prefer them!

What makes Romero Cookies authentic?

Our recipe has been in the Romero family for over 40 years. Every cookie is handmade in our Denver kitchen with simple, high-quality ingredients that melt in your mouth.

How long do Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies stay fresh?

Our cookies stay fresh for up to 90 days in tins or favor containers and about 30 days if placed in a cookie tray. While freezing won’t harm them, we recommend enjoying them fresh for the best flavor and texture.

Are Mexican Wedding Cookies just for weddings?

Not at all! While they began as a wedding tradition, Mexican Wedding Cookies are now enjoyed at birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and everyday gatherings. They also make thoughtful gifts for teachers, coworkers, and family.
