🎄 A Holiday Classic With Tropical Roots
Celebrate the season with a beautifully hand-painted poinsettia—one of the most iconic Christmas symbols with an origin story that’s anything but frosty.

Featured against lush tropical greens, this vibrant red bloom reminds us that the poinsettia is actually a native plant of Mexico, where it grows tall and wild under warm winter skies.

Known as La Flor de Nochebuena (“The Christmas Eve Flower”), the poinsettia was first brought to the United States in the 1820s by botanist and U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Joel Poinsett. Its brilliant red leaves and cultural symbolism quickly took root in American holiday traditions, becoming the winter flower we all recognize today.

💌 This card captures that history—bold, tropical, and deeply tied to Mexican heritage—making it a meaningful addition to any gift. Perfect for holiday greetings, cookie gifts, or anyone who loves a little culture woven into their celebrations.

FAQ

What are Mexican Wedding Cookies?

Mexican Wedding Cookies — also known as polvorones, pan de polvo, Russian tea cakes, or snowball cookies — are delicate, melt-in-your-mouth cookies dusted in powdered sugar. Romero Cookies are made from a 40-year family recipe, perfect for weddings, holidays, and everyday celebrations.

Are Romero Cookies the same as biscochitos or bizcochitos?

While they look similar, Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies are not biscochitos. They don’t contain anise and are not made with lard. We often hear regional debates about cookie names — try ours and you might prefer them!

What makes Romero Cookies authentic?

Our recipe has been in the Romero family for over 40 years. Every cookie is handmade in our Denver kitchen with simple, high-quality ingredients that melt in your mouth.

How long do Romero Mexican Wedding Cookies stay fresh?

Our cookies stay fresh for up to 90 days in tins or favor containers and about 30 days if placed in a cookie tray. While freezing won’t harm them, we recommend enjoying them fresh for the best flavor and texture.

Are Mexican Wedding Cookies just for weddings?

Not at all! While they began as a wedding tradition, Mexican Wedding Cookies are now enjoyed at birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and everyday gatherings. They also make thoughtful gifts for teachers, coworkers, and family.
